THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER
Mon 29.10. 18:00 @ Kino Tapiola
Peter Greenaway | 1989 | 2h4min | DCP

Food, sex, violence and murder. Love, hate, lust and envy. Peter Greenaway’s masterpiece has them all. It’s a revenge story in the form of a surreal black comedy. Story is set in a French restaurant which has taken over by an English gangster (Michael Gambon). His bored wife (Helen Mirren) seeks comfort in one of the regular customers and tensions start to rise. Sacha Vierny’s amazing cinematography and use of vivid colours will certainly make an impression, and the movie isn’t self-explanatory but gives lots of room for interpretations.

Godfrey Reggio | 1982 | 1h26min | DCP

Koyaanisqatsi is a word from the Hopi language and means “life out of balance”. Director Godfrey Reggio, cinematographer Ron Fricke and composer Philip Glass have made an astonishing documentary about modern civilisation and technology without using a single line of dialogue. The images and the music say everything that’s needed. This film is still screened regularly to audiences all around the world, which proves it still really makes an impact.

Mandy is the most disturbing Nicolas Cage movie yet. It has all you need for a splatter: demons, a cult run by a narcissist antichrist, occasionally stiff dialogue and a boatload of guts and blood. The visionary director Panos Cosmatos offers the viewer amazing visuals and shattering banter. Mandy sold out all of its screenings in the Love & Anarchy festival and left no one cold.
